dressmaking

This is perfect for those who have completed a ‘Learn to Sew’ workshop and would like to enter the world of dressmaking!

You’ll learn to make the gorgeous Bettine dress (the version without pockets) by Tilly and the Buttons.

You’ll be taught how to take accurate measurements and will unravel the jargon of dressmaking patterns! You’ll make this lovely dress that fits you; with an elastic waistband channel, finished seams and turn-up style cuffs.

Please bring 2m fabric (x 150cm wide) or 3m (x 115cm wide) light- to medium-weight fabric, Eg: Cotton voile, lawn or chambray. There is a lovely selection just next to the table in the John Lewis Haberdashery department! Avoid anything too slippery if you’re a beginner. You’re welcome to bring drinks and snacks with you, or there is a cafe on the fourth floor if you want to pick something up.

Please note: It’s a good idea to wash, dry and iron the fabric before the workshop in case it shrinks. The pattern goes up to 112cm (44in) bust and 120cm (47in) hips – if you need a larger size please get in touch with us before booking.

You’ll be provided with your very own pattern to take home (worth £12.50), interfacing and thread.

This Makery dressmaking workshop is split over two days.

The workshop costs £95. To book your place visit here.
